Helpful Tips For Wearing Your First Set Of Eyeglasses

Blog

When you visit your optometrist and they mention you are in need of corrective eyewear, it can be a little frustrating at first. However, once you get used to them, you may soon love wearing your glasses. Even if you want to eventually wear contact lenses, you should still start with eyeglasses to get accustomed to wearing them. There will be times when you can't wear your contacts and will need glasses, so get a pair regardless.

Choose the Right Frames For Your Face Shape

One of the first things you will do when you get eyeglasses is to choose the frames. There is a wide range of frames to choose from, from designer brands to budget-friendly ones and everything in between. You can find frames in just about every colour and style, along with many shapes. While you can get any frames you like, it helps to get ones that complement your face shape. For example, if you have a round-shaped face, square-shaped frames probably look better on you. Oval and round-shaped frames tend to look better on people with a heart-shaped face.

Make the Eyeglasses Case Easy to Find in the Dark

If you are like most people, you will keep your eyeglasses in the case, on your nightstand while sleeping. This makes them easy to access when you need them, so that if you can't see well at all without them, you don't have to stumble to the dresser on the opposite side of your room just to grab them. However, you might need to grab your glasses in the middle of the night. To avoid struggling to find them in the dark, paint a small symbol or line on the outside of the case with glow-in-the-dark paint. This makes it easy to find the case right away.

Wear Your Glasses Regularly

The more often you wear the glasses, the more comfortable they will become. Before too long, the glasses are like a second skin and you barely notice they are there. To get to this point, you need to wear them as often as you can. It is tempting to remove them since they can be uncomfortable in the beginning, but this is only going to make it more difficult to adjust to them properly. However, if you feel they just don't fit right, go back to the eye doctor to have the frames adjusted to fit your face better.

Keep the Lenses Clean

If you don't clean the lenses, it will become difficult to see out of them, and the buildup can get worse and actually affect the outer surface of the lenses. Use a lens cleaner and cloth to clean them, and never use a paper towel or toilet paper. Keep the glasses in the case when you aren't wearing them in order to protect them.

Family Eye Care Guide For Clear Vision

Hi, I'm Deena, and as I neared middle age, I noticed that my eyesight wasn't as good as it used to be. I first started out needing reading glasses to read the small print in magazines, and then a few months later, I had to put them on to see the computer screen clearly. I knew by then that my eyes were getting worse and that I needed to do something quickly. I made an appointment with the optometrist and the doctor gave me an eye exam. Even though my sight wasn't as bad as I had feared, I still needed prescription glasses. I love my new glasses because I can actually see now. I have put together a lot of information about eye problems, eye tests and even various types of eye wear so that others don't wait as long as I did to see the eye doctor.
